Remnants from Boston

Currently, I have 14,000 emails in my Gmail inbox, as well as hundreds upon hundreds of photos from all the way back in high school. I was going through some of the photos on my computer, in an effort to delete some and organize the rest, and I realized that there were pictures from our Boston trip that were really sweet and should be shared. So… instead of cleaning my computer I put together this post. (Which is still productive, right?)

^^ We tried going to the Cranberry bogs on the Cape to take a tour but all the cranberries were gone so the trip was slightly anti- climatic.

Red Jumpsuit Apparatus- Day

If my favorite color could be white, I would always choose white. But people look at you strangely when you say that you love white, so usually I stick with a safer answer like turquoise. Lately though, I am all about red. Since we are getting closer to Christmas with every passing day (favorite sentence I have written thus far), wearing exuberant amounts of red just feels right. Pairing this jump suit with a jean blouse and loads of leopard tones down the dressiness of it and makes for a fun day time outfit.

You can find a fun leopard print scarf here  and then again for a slightly different scarf option, Denim shirt , Similar leopard flats as well as this shoe option
Similar red jumpsuit option from H&M.

Red Jump Suit Apparatus - Night

Chicago has been surprisingly warm the past few days. The past weekend was just beyond beautiful and I was lucky enough to spend most of it outside with friends, going on walks and eating lots of good food. By now, you should know that I am a sucker for a fun jump suit. This jumpsuit from Top Shop is currently on sale for $35, where it normally goes for around $90. It is such a fun piece that you can wear to a wedding, out to dinner or just out for the night. Definitely head on over to Top Shop before it is gone.

Online you can find the strapless version of this same piece, here. Check back this week for a day time styling of this jumpsuit!

Feelings vs. Faith

If you are reading this and know me, the odds are that you know that I am a follower of Jesus Christ. I am a lot of other things but this is the identity I try and cling to.
At this point I have been a Christian long enough that I have passed through the high that follows truly accepting Christ. The honeymoon phase is over and Jesus and I have hit some bumps and also settled into some comfortable routines together. There have been some difficult times (see last March’s post about longing) where any sort of high disappeared and following felt more costly than joy filled. But we weathered through this dark season and now I can see that it burned away layers of my heart that needed to burn.
Currently, we are out of the woods and settling back into something that feels safe, warm and familiar. The safety of this place is filled with warm fuzzy feelings. I actually have a very vivid mental picture of this place which includes a fire crackling in a room filled with blankets, books, tea and loved ones. Last March I felt like I was out in the cold, nose pressed up against the foggy glass of the window without a way to get into this room.
Now, I am inside, and, honestly, it is wonderful.
I am sure that there will be a time again when I get locked out of the room and can’t seem to find my way back inside.
Like any relationship, there are always really sweet periods and then dry ones. Quite honestly, there were a few melodramatic moments filled with some despair where I felt like I would never feel the same sort of joy with Jesus as I had previously.
But after praying and talking to others about it, I decided that even if the feeling never came back, I would still follow. I can see now that was one of those pivotal life moments that God totally honored.
The fickleness of the human heart pushes and pulls us to and from truth, requiring a mental commitment instead of just a faith based upon feeling.
Sometimes, I wish that churches would offer some sort of premarital type course on becoming a Christian when you enter the engagement period of faith. I feel like more people need to be told that this relationship with the Creator of the Universe is not always going to be easy and that even if it feels bad it does not mean that it is bad or that He is not there.
Relationships can be hard but they also can be so, so good and life filling. If you feel like you are on the outside, stuck in the cold, please keep clinging. Don’t turn back. I can promise that the feeling does not last forever but that the relationship will and before you know it a deeper joy than you can ever imagine will return.
A type of joy that results when both parties have tasted the cost, yet keep choosing each other.

Chose even when the feelings don’t follow. The door will swing open again and you will be sitting inside next to the fire soon enough.
This, I can promise.

Working in one of the most conservative practices means that I have to wear some variation of a suit every day. It has been fun to work within those boundaries by changing it up from the traditional black skirt suit by wearing white blazers and mixing and matching. I have been able to wear this white blazer from Zara to work and then out afterwards. Although, I will never be able to get really creative with work clothing, I have enjoyed learning the value of dressing for your job.

Similar white jacket option from Zara. Also love this drapey blazer that is slightly off the beaten path in a light pinkish. Skirt from Express here.

Cape Cod and Special Places

After spending some time in Boston and Cambridge, we drove to Cape Cod. Growing up we spent some time at the Cape every summer. I had not been to the Cape in a couple of years and it was surreal to be back. Flashbacks of summers spent running around the beach with my Grandpa rushed through my mind as we walked along the sand. This place had so much meaning to my family and adapting it to our new life changes made it even more special. Places are important, they can connect the intangible to the tangible and give you a backdrop to point to when explaining events and life stages.  Often, the place takes on a  personality of its own. I have always valued (rightfully or not) making places beautiful and obsess over decorating my apartment. Taking pictures of beautiful places and moments is just an extension of that passion. I hope you enjoy these pictures of my family's special place and that you find joy in your own special places.
