Everything hearts- check. Everything pink- check. Everything sweet- check!
These little heart cookies were really imperfect since.....guess what I do not own a heart cookie cutter! I had to go through and draw each heart by hand so all the hearts turned out a little quirky... but still so good. I had planned on making royal icing so that the cookies would look sleek and perfect. but the one magic ingredient in royal icing - meringue powder- is next to impossible to find. You basically have to get it at a specialty baking store or order it online. Instead, we made buttermilk frosting and gave up on the idea of sleek perfection of royal icing. Buttermilk frosting tastes better anyway :) Recipe for the sugar cookies found here and the buttermilk frosting made from the recipe on the confectioner's sugar box with a few drops of red food dye to make the frosting a light pink :)
